Credit Card Debt

Credit cards are one of the leading causes of debt problems. At the Hunter Law Firm, P.A., we understand that credit card debt is not always the result of poor spending habits. Many of the people we represent simply turned to credit cards after losing a job or facing some other unexpected event. They used credit cards to cover living expenses, and unfortunately, their debt spiraled out of control. Then they turned to our lawyers for help.

Credit Card Debt Is Easily Eliminated Through Bankruptcy

Credit card debt is referred to as unsecured debt. It is debt that is not secured by some form of collateral, like a car. In other words, there is nothing the creditor can repossess if you do not pay your credit card bills.

Unsecured debt is the easiest type of debt to eliminate through bankruptcy. Typically, it can be discharged completely in Chapter 7. In Chapter 13, a repayment plan can be created. The repayment plan may include some or all of the credit card debt, or it may focus on repaying secured debt and the credit card debt may be discharged in full when the plan is completed.
